Blazing Dragons

[LOST GAME] [COMPLETED GAME]

Publisher: Crystal Dynamics A game that stands out for some reason.

Developer: Illusions Gaming Company

Release Date: 10/31/1996

Date Played: I don’t remember

Region: PAL

Time Played: About 4 hours. I beat it.

What’d you think?: Oh Christ. Of the handful of games I lost under a server rack at Twitch HQ, this one hurts the most, because I actually beat it. It’s a point-and-click adventure game with no way to lose, so beating it was my only option. This isn’t a genre I’m very well-versed in. I’ve played some of the more important ones, your Sams and Maxes, your Grim Fandangos, and a Monkey Island or two, but that’s more or less it. For a game like this to be good, it’s got to have either interesting puzzles, or funny writing, both of which are difficult to accomplish for very different reasons. This game wanted to be in the latter camp, and despite an impressive-for-video-games voice acting pedigree (Terry Jones! Cheech Marin! Harry Shearer!) it kind of misses the mark; the jokes were more or less just a barrage of bad puns. It’s based on a British cartoon by Monty Python’s Terry Jones, which makes the funny-for-a-video-game bar that it barely clears extra disappointing. But I beat it, the first game in this project to have been completed.
