What’d you think?: Also known as Crash Team Racing, I played the Japanese release, which, if nothing else, has much better cover art. This is a kart racing game, and like all kart racing games it’s going to be compared to Mario Kart, and like all kart racing games, it’s going to fall a little short, but that’s not to say it’s bad. The driving feels fine, fun, and fair, and the weapons are a joy to inflict on your opponents and frustrating to be hit by (as it should be). The main drawback, I think, is that it’s all Crash Bandicoot stuff, and I’m not a big aficionado of the franchise, but for someone who likes Tiny Tiger and Dingodile more than Bowser and Toad, this is probably the game for them. It’s got a story mode that just tosses some cutscenes in between races and makes you drive around an overworld between them, which honestly is a nice touch that didn’t feel annoying.
